Saran roped with Ajith for his 49th project titled as “Asal”

After Director Gautham Menon withdraw from Ajith 49th project it was almost tensed moments for Sivaji Production but the scenario had changed now as Director Saran roped with Ajith for his 49th project titled as “Asal” which is produced by Sivaji Productions. There were rumours that Director Vijay, Vishnuvardhan or Dharani doing this project for Sivaji Productions.

Sameera Reddy will be playing the female lead and the music will be scored by A R Rahman or Harris Jeyaraj. Director Saran will be available only after his current movie “Modhi Vilayadu”. Both Ajith and Saran had previously given hits like “Amarkalam”, “Kadhal Mannan” and “Attagasam”.

Actor Surya's energy level is amazing Actress Sameera Reddy

Sameera Reddy is the new babe from Bollywood who is making waves in Kollywood with her debut film Vaaranam Aayiram. The pretty young lady was in Chennai to promote and attend the premiere of the film. met her at Gautham Vasudev Menon’s office for this free wheeling interview.Excerpts

How was your first stint with a Tamil film? Was it difficult to grasp the language?
When I came first came to Chennai for the shoot, I heard the language and thought it was pretty difficult. I remember my first dialogue had a word Kuzhainthagal (Children) and I was shocked you guys roll your tongue to say that. I used to write down my lines and learn them before every shot and it was like going back to school. It wasn’t easy but I had a blast working with Gautham.

What was the first scene that you shot for Vaaranam Aayiram?
My first scene was shot in a train in Chennai when I meet Surya. Surya is down-to-earth and his energy level is amazing.

How was your shoot in San Francisco?
It was very cold but we had a great time shooting there. It was during that time, that Surya had a baby and he was shopping like mad for his little daughter. I used to help him pick dresses and he almost bought the entire shop (smiles)

Who are your friends in Chennai?
I am very close to Surya and Jo. They are such a cute couple who bond well. He is a very sensitive, sweet, down-to-earth person who is a good friend. I’m a big fan of his Kaakha Kaakha. And I consider it great to be a part of Surya film.

How was it shooting for the songs in the film?
Brinda master has done songs for me in Telugu with NTR and Chiranjeevi. In Vaaranam Aayiram my movement in songs are graceful and soft. The small nuances and expressions that Gautham has caught on camera are really nice. The Sameera Reddy in Vaaranam Aayiram is different from Musafir or Race.

There were 3 heroines in Vaaranam Aayiram? Did you feel threatened at any point of time?
Not at all. And more over I have not met any of them during the shoot as we never had any combination scene together. I only interacted with Surya. There could be 50 heroines in a film and I will not be bothered as long as I’m happy with what I’m doing and I don’t look lost.

South Indian heroines are supposed to be coy and politically correct? Your Comment
Who made these rules? I am told that heroines in south have to be short, soft-spoken, fair, have long hair and light eyes. My height was and never has been a problem. We have tall guys in the industry too. I know so many successful heroines who are may not look fantastic but has the right attitude and aura.

What are your forthcoming projects?
I play a Dalit woman from Rajasthan in Nagesh Kukunoor’s Yeh Khosla and there is Dan Dana Dan directed by Priyadarshan, which is a comedy action movie.

Sameera Reddy who loved her dumb bimbo number with Anil Kapoor

Sameera Reddy fans and admirers, who loved her dumb bimbo number with Anil Kapoor in Abbas-Mastaan’s Race, will find it difficult to recognize her in Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s just-released Bengali film Kaal Purush (Memories in the Mist.) Sameera flew down for the premiere to Kolkata and flew back even before the film was over.

Her role in Kaal Purush was followed by another role in Dasgupta’s latest film The Voyeurs. TWF correspondent Shoma A. Chatterji spoke to the very friendly and beautiful Sameera.

Considering that your debut in films began only in 2002 with Maine Dil Tujhko Diya, you have come a long way, right?
I consider myself lucky to have worked with the best directors in the industry. It has not been easy but it is not easy for anyone in the industry. It is an uphill climb for all of us here, including Shahrukh Khan.

I have worked with directors ranging from Sanjay Gupta through Ram Gopal Verma to Buddhadeb Dasgupta and Aruna Raje.

I worked with Mira Nair though that was for a short film Migration, screened at the Toronto Film Festival in 2007. I play a housewife who is HIV+. The Voyeurs, my second film with Buddha-da, was screened at the same festival.

How did it all begin?
When I was still studying at the Sydenham College in Mumbai, I happened to be chosen for a Pankaj Udhas video called Aashita.

My sisters, Meghna and Sushma were also very inspiring for me. I used to be a fun-loving, happy-go-lucky girl in college. But after this video, I became serious and decided to concentrate on two things – training in Kathak and acting in films.
